In a few weeks it will cost you NIS 1,000 to smoke in Terminal 3 (the main terminal) of Ben Gurion Airport. That is unless you choose to smoke in one of the 3 newly-designated smoking rooms. Airport employees are instructed to tell others - whether passengers or fellow staff members - to obey the law.

Kudos to Bank Leumi, which is the first Israeli bank to open a branch that is completely wheelchair accessible.
According to ynetnews, the branch services include a specially designed teller for people in wheelchairs, a Braille-operated elevator, and an ATM fitted for a person in a wheelchair that is also voice-activated. Read more»

The dusty, twisting dirt roads leading to Kibbutz Gezer have me wondering if a baseball diamond and green grass are truly anywhere to be found. The unpaved stretch that serves as a parking lot is just beyond the outfield fence. There are no parking attendants, police officers, or turnstiles at this game of the Israel Baseball League. A man sits at a wooden table selling tickets: this isn’t Yankee Stadium. But just as “the House That Ruth Built” is an oasis in the Bronx, the field at Kibbutz Gezer is likewise an oasis. Read more»

Save a Child’s Heart (SACH), in Israeli organization, has brought five Rwandan children with heart disease to Tel Aviv last week for operations. The children range in age from a few months old to 15 years old. They will be operated on in the Wolfson Medical Center in Tel Aviv.
SACH has brought 1700 children from 27 countries in the past 12 years for heart surgery so far. Rwanda is the 28th country. Read more»

I’m sure Fiddy Cent (50 Cent) would be proud of his tzitzit-wearing followers from Bnei Brak, Israel, who released an album of Yiddish cover songs which includes a Jew-i-fied version of his hit song, “In Da Club”. These cover versions are rated G, as the original lyrics are replaced with family-appropriate lyrics with a Jewish theme. Following an 8.0-magnitude earthquake in Peru on Wednesday which has killed at least 510 people, President Shimon Peres has offered Peruvian President Alan Garcia assistance in whatever way is needed.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has transfered $20,000 to Peru for purchase of blankets and tents for the victims.
