Business 2.0 has published a list of the 12 top places for doing business in the wired world. Guess who’s on the list…Tel Aviv!
The entry on Tel Aviv explains where to find free Wi-fi (Cafe Joe), where to get a haircut (Shuki Zikri), where to do business (Arcaffe in Herzliya), and where to celebrate closing that big business deal (I’m not going to tell you where - take a look for yourself!).
Business 2.0 describes Israel as a place where many global corporations have flocked to find developers, and advises people not to overdress, since Israel is very casual. That is for sure - I have yet to see an Israeli who looks comfortable in a suit and tie…
The other places on the list are Bangalore, Barcelona, Helsinki, Hong Kong, London, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Stockholm, Talinn, and Tokyo.
Tel Aviv is a really beautiful city, take a look:

Israeli’s dress that casual?
Is it because of the heat?
(either way, that’s good news, as I have never been a fan of ties).
Darnell - I worked in one of Israel’s largest hi-tech companies for a while. They had photos of all the top executives on the server for use in PR materials, and most of them wore the requisite suit and tie in the photos. But the CEO wore a plain button-down shirt with the top button open in his pic!
When people dress up here, it often means they’re not wearing jeans. Don’t get me wrong - people dress really nicely, just without the fancy element. And this casualness applies to more than just dress. I personally love it!
I agree - ties are some weird cultural convention…like heels for women.
