Travelers feel safest at Ben Gurion Airport, new report reveals

airplaneA new study released by the International Airport Council (ACI) indicates that travelers feel safer at Ben Gurion Airport than at other European airports. In related news, passenger traffic at Ben-Gurion International Airport grew last month by 14% compared to July 2006. Some 977,000 passengers passed through the Ben-Gurion airport through July 28.

And finally, Israel’s Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz announced that luggage of non-Jews would no longer be identified with colored tags. Instead, the luggage of non-Jewish passengers will be stamped with the same color sticker as the Jewish passengers, only with a different number, in order to save the non-Jewish passengers from embarrassment. Ha’aretz pointed out that this practice mainly affected Arab passengers.

So, the question is: will Ben Gurion’s new security practices help maintain travelers’ perception that it’s the safest airport, or cause the airport to lose that status?
