Taglit-birthright brings young Jewish adults to Israel who have never been there before, and for free. The trips usually involve intense tours of the country, where history, culture and spirituality are all explored.
Taglit allows other organizations to run their own trips in conjunction with Taglit. Generally, these groups are serious Jewish organizations with conventional agendas, like strengthening Jewish identity and community.
Well, now you can join Jewlicious and Heeb, two extraordinarily unconventional Jewish publications, on their Taglit-birthright trip to Israel. birthright will never be the same.
Here’s how Jewlicious describes their trip:
None of our trip leaders have been hired because of their experience singing Kumbaya in a circle at some summer camp…Jewlicious and Oranim will provide you with the Israel insider perspective, while Heeb represents the very best of Shtetl fabulousness transplanted onto the Lower East side. It’s the next best thing to being on a trip led by Herzl and Spinoza. Or Ariel Sharon and Woody Allen. Except that Soon Yi doesn’t qualify.
Shtetl fabulousness transplanted onto the Lower East side!! After reading that, how can you NOT join their group?

Thanks for the shout out! This will indeed be a uh… unique Taglit-birthright israel trip. I’m not quite sure how it’s going to go down but if the Zionists don’t end up killing the Diasporists (is that even a word?) then it ought to be good, enlightening fun. I went to high school in Montreal with a Miriam Schwab. How random is that?
@ck - No problem! And that is random, especially since I’m originally from Toronto!
Good luck with the trip - I’m sure it will be very…enlightening!
